Is the Sunday Newspaper a Wise Buy?

Many have asked me, "How valuable is it for you to get the Sunday newspaper with the coupon inserts?" Well, I think the best way to answer is for you to look here, here, and here. Without coupons, these deals wouldn't have been nearly as good. To get the Tribune delivered to your house for $1/week, check out my post here!

Of course, we don't live off cereal. (In fact, sometimes I trade it for whole, unpasteurized, organic milk from my parents' farm.) But when I can find healthy cereal at a great price (like 6 boxes for $1.16), I stock pile as much as I know we'll use.  However, I do believe in good nutrition. We eat fruits and vegetables every day. We drink organic milk. We try to eat a fresh green salad every day. I love making my own bread. Yes, we do eat desserts, although it's a rare occurrence for me to buy packaged desserts and cookies (but we do love good ice cream!).  My point is: there's a balance. Scoop up those great deals, but don't forget to eat your green and orange veggies every day!

My favorite place to buy greens: Sam's Club. Pick up a 16 oz. box of Organic Spring Green Mix for around $3.99!!

  1. After not using coupons for almost 2 years and just getting back into I can't believe I went so long! I can't believe the amount of things I can get for free or almost free. To me buying the Sunday paper (or two!) is definitely worth it to me.

  2. I would say Sunday inserts are the best way to get things for cheap/free. We are really fortunate to be able to get a bunch of inserts without subscribing to a paper though. We live in a condo building with many subscribers who don't want their coupons!

  3. Lisa, I'm with you. I try to pick up at least two papers. And, Jenny, you are fortunate on that one!

  4. Thanks for taking the time to find these deals and share your good advice. I see that you have deals posted with coupons from months ago. Do you keep all the coupons from the Sunday paper to use with later sales? What have you found to be a good way to organize them all?

  5. I do keep the coupons. Each week, after I clip the coupons that I know I'll use, I place the inserts in a folder labeled with that Sunday's date. Yesterday's inserts would be in a folder labeled "4/5." Then I place these in a file box or file drawer for easy reference. With Jewel's coupon policy changing on May 1 (they will no longer accept expired coupons), I will be purging my coupons more frequently and getting rid of expireds! :-) However, Dominick's does still take expired coupons up to 6 months!
